A conversation at Amsterdam Dance Event that barely involved music has led to an international release. Dutch producer and songwriter Alex van Dijk, based in the Netherlands, produced “Lost & Never Found”, the new single by Davide Dalmonte, set for release on September 18.
The story began last year at a BMG gathering during ADE, where Van Dijk met songwriter Conan Mac. Surprisingly, their conversation that afternoon had very little to do with music. They talked about life, Conan’s farm and the way he had chosen to live. That personal connection eventually led to their first songwriting collaboration earlier this year.
A few months later, Van Dijk called Conan about another project. During that conversation, he learned that a producer had unexpectedly dropped out of a project for Davide Dalmonte. Conan asked Van Dijk if he could take over the production. Van Dijk was available and took on the project.
Van Dijk created the music from his studio in Veenendaal, in the Netherlands. It became the foundation for Conan Mac and Davide Dalmonte to write the song and record the vocals in the UK. The vocal recordings were then sent back to the Netherlands, where Van Dijk completed the production and played the remaining musical parts himself. The guitars were recorded in the UK by Will Farquarson of British band Bastille.
“It’s a special feeling when you’re sitting in your studio and suddenly the guitar parts from Will arrive. It makes you incredibly excited and happy. Moments like that remind you how amazing it is to be able to collaborate with people like this from your own studio.”
Dalmonte is also known as one of the vocalists on The Wellermen’s internationally successful version of “Hoist The Colours”, a song originally featured in *Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End*, with music by Hans Zimmer.
For Van Dijk, “Lost & Never Found” represents an important step in his development as a producer and songwriter, and marks a significant international production project for him.
“My studio is my base, but from here I can work with people all over the world. That’s what I love about producing music today. You can be in the Netherlands and still be part of an international creative process. I’m incredibly proud that this collaboration has resulted in a release like this.”
